Ageing Gracefully.
My word you’re ugly the mirror said
With your cauliflower ears and your wrinkled head.
You look at me with your one good eye
With no hair at all and your wig awry.
Your teeth are rotten your nose is bent
Your body is shapeless like a worn out tent.
With your short bowed legs on your two flat feet
People avoid you in the street.
But fifty years ago you were different then
You were tall and handsome at one score and ten.
I turn from the mirror feeling low as one could
When my partner remarks, you do look good.
You look ten years younger your eyes are bright
And the way you’re smiling - I’ll see you tonight.
The moral?
You are not what you see
when people around you
view you differently.
